It's the start of a brand-new school day and I welcome each student by their first name and shake their hands as they enter our classroom. I exclaim, "Good morning class of 2028. It's a great day to be a Roadrunner!"
Our classroom is a safe place for my students to explore, learn, play, and grow.
They are taught that they can grow up and become anything they desire and that education is their key to a better life. As a teacher, I focus on career readiness and discuss their goals of graduating from high school and attending college or trade schools in the near future. My students are passionate about their learning goals and need some TLC emotionally and financially to succeed in school and ultimately in life.
My Project
Many students struggle in school because they are required to sit in a traditional desk and chair setting. Many students desire an alternative to this and flexible seating allows students with ADHD or similar challenges to choose a more comfortable place to sit and work to maximize their learning.
Wobble stools, Fidget feet bands, and lap desks allow for student choice when completing school work and help students to stay on task without being punished.
Through flexible seating, student behavior and positive attitudes towards school can be improved. Hopefully, students will feel more comfortable by being allowed to sit where and how they choose in the classroom.
