My students need a comfortable place to sit. A class set of contemporary four-leg plastic chairs will provide a comfortable, reliable place to sit, without the worry of being pinched.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each morning my students come into class with drooped shoulders and half closed eyes. Many of them didn't sleep last night. Many of them are fighting hunger, and many of them are carrying a burden that most adults couldn't bear. Still, they march right in and get to work!
The backpack comes off, and so does their burden.
Each day I am amazed at how much information my students absorb. In addition to living in high poverty, many of my students come from single parent homes.
My Project
The chairs of a classroom are one of the most basic and concrete foundations of the learning environment. My students simply need a comfortable and reliable place to sit each day. The learning that takes place in my classroom is not dependent on the latest technology or most up-to-date devices, however it is dependent on the focus and engagement of my students.
Currently, my classroom chairs are falling apart.
One by one, my students' chairs are collapsing. The legs of the chairs are rusted, The seats are missing bolts, the plastic is cracked , and the students can't focus because their seats are wobbly and unreliable!
A new set of chairs would bring uniformity and focus back to my classroom. My students would no longer worry about being pinched repeatedly by broken plastic, having their clothing caught on stray bolts, or trying to balance on uneven legs. Finally, (with your help), my students can come into class and happily "Take a Seat".
