Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach a group of amazing 5th graders in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. My classroom is full of color both on the walls, and in the personalities of my students. To make my classroom the most effective learning environment that it can be, I am seeking 4 chairs for our small group instruction table!

In my class I have 30 different students with a wide range of backgrounds and interests.

A common theme for my students, however, is that the majority of them live in a failing school district and 75% of them qualify for a free or reduced price lunch. Providing them with excellent academic instruction so that they can one day go to college is the mission of our school.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting are going to be used for instruction at our small group table. There is a group of students in my class that have special needs and require more individualized instruction to help them meet the objective. In addition, there is a group of students in my class that are above grade level, and require individualized attention to push them beyond grade level expectations. Having seats at our small instruction table will allow for these small group meetings, without causing disruption to the class during the transition.

Having these chairs will make a difference for my students because it will get them the smaller group instruction that they need, whether that is to help them to reach the objective, or to push them beyond it.

Small group instruction is critical in the planning and delivery of all my lessons. Having these chairs will make small group instruction easier logistically for me and my students.
