Help me give my students a Black Box Theater to devise and create beautiful theater. We are starting from scratch building a theater community at our school and we need seats! Turn our dream into a reality!
My students are excited and eager to explore Theater Arts – they live in South Brooklyn and some travel by bus and subway to be a part of the Cunningham community. We are a Title I school and most of my students have not had the opportunity to be exposed to the beauty and magic of the theater. My students are courageous, strong and passionate. They are children who live in an urban environment and carry with them all the hopes, dreams and fears that come with living in NYC. They have the acting bug and need the space and tools to make their dreams a reality.
My Project
Our school is a large middle school in South Brooklyn, with over 1,600 students. We are trying to turn a classroom into a theater space and we need seats! The dream is to have students, families and community members feel like they are walking into a professional theater excited and eager to watch a performance, explore theater games or learn the fundamentals of acting.
Theater seats will allow my students, their families and community members to come together and experience the magic of live theater created and devised by students.
By creating art that is connected to their lives, they will be actively engaged in the age old process of theater making.
Watching their faces as the fire is ignited and the passion begins to flow, I know that theater class has impacted their young lives. They deserve to have all the resources and tools to build a strong theater foundation from which they can grow.
