This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are always happy to be at school and eager to learn! This is my sixth year teaching Kindergarten at my school. I work at a Title I school in an urban environment. In my school, 100% of our students receive free and reduced lunch.
These students are smart students and very capable of succeeding when given the proper tools.
We use a lot of music and technology throughout lessons since my students are growing up around technology. We are constantly moving using music and dance. My goal is to make learning fun for my students.
My Project
We spend much of the day on the carpet. However, the carpet we have now does not give us the space we need. In Kindergarten, we talk a great deal about “personal space.” Some of our students have never been to school before, so we talk a lot about keeping our hands to ourselves. Each of my students has a “spot” on our current rug and this carpet will guarantee that they have adequate room on the carpet. Having their own spot on the carpet helps with teaching the concept of “personal space.”
The colorful and fun rug will give us more room to read a book, sing songs, and dance!
This carpet will make our time together on the rug more enjoyable.
