The students at my school have been missing something for many years...a dedicated Art program! With a new district incentive, art is being added back into our school, and the students couldn’t be more excited about it! We are a smaller, close knit school with a population of under 500. As the school art teacher, I see each and every student through the week. Students of all ages and grades, those on the autistic spectrum, as well as those with emotional and behavioral issues have a chance to come in and express themselves though art.
These children continue to amaze me every day with their passion, creativity and love of art!
As a start up program, we have the basic supplies needed for art, but I hope to continue to build our program to include a assortment of mediums, tools and manipulatives to expand our artistic endeavors. Every new experience in the art room is seen in the excitement on each child’s face!
My Project
Materials in an art class are constantly changing for each project...the one thing that is used everyday is a place to sit while making art! My students currently use a set of uneven, different sized, and space consuming chairs. The chairs do not even push in properly to the table. In my portable, space is a commodity I certainly do not have! In an effort to build a class set of seating for all my class sizes, this portion of stools is part 2 of an initial project of 15 stools.
Students would benefit from art stools in so many ways.
They would have more room move around the room. They would also be able to turn 360 degrees on the stool to see me where ever I am doing a demonstration or showing examples in the classroom. They will also feel like real artists sitting on the stools while creating their masterpieces!
