Every day, I am fortunate to work with a community of students that are overflowing with curiosity, passion, and a desire to find their own voice and identity in my classroom.
Each day, I find that my students are not only ready to learn but excited to share about their lives, building a community full of respect and joy.
My students blow me away with their investment in making learning truly their own. In the time that I have taught at my school, I have transformed my teaching because of ideas that students have for how their class is structured, how they can show their learning, and how we can build an even stronger, richer community.
My students have taught me as much and I have taught them.
Walk into my classroom on any day, and you'll find the room buzzing with energy as students are working on small groups quizzing each other on their vocabulary, creating stories using images, playing games to practice verb conjugations, or creating health plans for a fictional school nurse-- things are never calm!
Learning a new language can be a scary thing, providing flexible seating will allow students to create spaces that work best for them and their learning.
I strive to provide as much student choice in my classroom, but seating has been one thing students have not been able to control. The round table will allow small groups to practice Spanish conversations, the wobble stools will allow students to move more closely together when they want to revise and provide feedback to each other about writing, and the stability balls will energetic students get the wiggles out without sacrificing valuable class time.
Providing these choices will allow students to take even greater ownership in how they learn!
