Kindergarten is where fostering a love for learning is so important and will stick with students for years to come. It is often students first experience in a school setting and I would love to make it a positive experience!
Approximately 67% of students come from low-income households and qualify for free or reduced lunch.
It is a diverse community of learners who have various backgrounds and abilities. Despite any hardships, kindergarten students are always eager to learn and look forward to coming into school every day.
My Project
With classroom rugs, I am able to give the students opportunities to learn in different ways such as a whole group, small group, partners and individually. Students in Kindergarten have a short attention span so being able to comfortably move and sit in different areas of the classroom is essential in keeping students engaged and learning. The large rug would be a common meeting place for students and the teacher used daily for the morning meeting, lessons and practice, reading and sharing thoughts as well as coming together as a community.
The large rug will give students a place where they can comfortably and safely come together every day.
Using this rug to create a common, respectful and safe area where students can gather to learn and share is important to creating successful learners.
