I get to go to my DREAM job every day and work with amazing students who are kind, caring, energetic student citizens that are eager to learn. Life with these little humans are unpredictable, hilarious, wonderful and simply memorable. But these fearless crusaders come with an array of very real social-emotional challenges. My students are learning to be the boss of their anxiety, how to regulate their very big and real emotions, and how to embrace their ADHD and accept and view their differences as strengths rather than weaknesses. None of us were born knowing how to control big emotions and children need time and practice to master these skills. But, that's where I come in! As an elementary school counselor, I am there to help nurture their ability to manage their emotional responses in healthy, adaptive ways. Incorporating sensory tools, timers, chimes and books will met the needs of struggling students while teaching them to take a mindful moment. My Project
It takes a lot of practice to learn how to manage strong emotions. There is no better place to learn how to regulate emotions and strengthen social skills than in the safety and security of elementary school. As a school counselor, I am passionate about preparing and helping student's to better engage in learning, learn to self-regulate their behavior, and improve their attention skills and well-being. These materials will give students a good start in learning these valuable skills as I guide them through the MindUP™ program. MindUP™ is an evidence-based social and emotional learning program that teaches children strategies guided by the fields of neuroscience, mindful awareness training, social and emotional learning, and positive psychology to support success in the classroom and in life.
