Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of fourteen males. Ninety-six percent of the students in my class are on a free or reduced-priced lunch program. Most students come from blue collar, working families. We are in a high poverty location. I have the great opportunity of teaching in a special education setting where I am able to scaffold and ensure that each student has an equal opportunity for learning. I not only take equality into consideration but also equity when it comes to providing my students the education they deserve.
My Project
According to Scholastic's webpage: "Reluctant readers are often reluctant because they associate reading with schoolwork, studying, parental pressure, and other less-than-awesome activities." This has definitely been my experience as well in the classroom with my students and I would like to change that.
Having the Dr Seuss, There Was an Old Lady, and Harry Potter series' of books available in my classroom will give my students a silly, fun, and enjoyable alternative that will surely help to persuade them that reading can be fun and not a boring task.
Please help us get these books into our classroom. Updating our library with these series' will help my students to improve their reading while they laugh, stay focused, and not even realize they are learning.
