My students live in a neighborhood in Arkansas that has a combination of low income and middle income families. The families our school serves places a high value on education and are eager to have their children come to our school. Students are excited to come to school each day to learn. In my classroom, I balance planning developmentally appropriate, rigorous learning through hands-on experiences and play. We are getting ready for success in school, work and life. Together we laugh, play and learn.
My Project
Students learn to read by reading good books. The guided reading books we have are falling apart after years of use. I tape them back together, but we really need new books to learn. However, good guided reading books are really expensive.
I'm requesting Rigby PM Plus books including Bedtime, Mother Bird, The Big Hill, The Red Puppy, and Let's Pretend.
Students will keep these books in their reading bags so they can practice reading on their own. My students love to learn new reading skills and practice reading. They are so proud of their learning!
This project will also incorporate Economics. We talk about wants and needs. We will discuss the value of our new books, and we will talk about how to care for expensive things so that they will last.
