Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are inquisitive and energetic 3rd graders from a low-income community in Chicago. Most come from Spanish speaking households and many have transitioned from the bilingual program at our school.
We LOVE to READ!
My students support, encourage and congratulate each other throughout the day. They make me laugh when they sing and dance during our Brain Breaks on Go Noodle. We are a classroom of animal lovers and the students happily take on the responsibility of caring for our classroom fish, gecko and hamster.
As their teacher it is important to me that I create a learning environment that is comfortable and engaging where students enjoy coming to each day.
My Project
Creating a cozy reading nook in the classroom helps excite and inspire students to read. Our current reading nook is a hit but with a 4FT X 6FT rug it's just not big enough! Students that are reading are in the way of students that are trying to get a book.
Reading nooks provide a space for students to work comfortably away from their tables.
Students need these opportunities for movement during the school day. Adding the Shady Grove carpet will allow students better access to our reading nook throughout the day.
This grant will not only upgrade our reading nook but allow us to create another work space with our existing smaller rug.
