The Chicago Public Library System is an amazing, free resource that serves every Chicago resident. Unfortunately, many of my second graders have never been to a library. They live close to the Englewood branch but have never stepped inside. Our school library lacks a check out system, so many of my students are limited to the one nightly book I allow them to take home. Many of them do not have one book that they call their own. Second grade is a crucial formative year in a child's learning, and it is imperative that literacy is a top priority. Please help me kick off the year right and jump start my students' year in reading by taking us to the library! The Harold Washington Library in downtown Chicago offers CPS students free field trips, we just need the money for the bus to get us there. Please take my 30 students to the library where we will ALL get library cards, and the let the reading begin!
