This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a wonderful mix of cultures, languages, levels, and challenges. I have worked at this school for 29 years. And though many of our kids are from low-socioeconomic families, they are willing to try new things, love learning and having fun. We focus on teamwork, mindfulness and engagement. I have a music background, so beats and rhythms are part of my class as well.

My third grade class is challenged with learning so many new concepts.

Multiplication, state testing, and cursive writing, to name a few. I want my students to have every advantage to reach their potential.

My Project

I'm completing a taiko drum project for my taiko drumming class. These 18" diameter, sturdy drums will require rolling stands to allow students to move their drums into various formations for each drill or song. Staples' dollies will give the drums a longer life, as the bottom head will be on a protective surface, as well as providing a safe way to move and transport the new drums.

Taiko performances will feel and look more authentic with the ease of moving drums on these new dollies.

I've already seen how many students in my group have gone on to learning other musical instruments after learning to play taiko in elementary school.
