Help me give my students parents an opportunity to share in their children's learning experiences with these family engagements packs.

I began my teaching career in an impoverished rural community. Currently, I work at a Title I public school in the inner city. My students come from diverse, low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of my students are struggling readers and writers but they are all still so eager and willing to learn. After nearly an 18 month hiatus, my students have finally begun transitioning back to face-to-face learning.
On Sunday, August 29, 2021, Hurricane Ida lashed through southeast Louisiana on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Once again the start of our school year has been interrupted.
No matter the obstacles they face outside the class, my students strive to be the best they can be every single day. Although the methods and environments in which they learn best vary greatly, I want to be able to provide an innovative learning environment of guidance, support, and comfort.
The family engagement packs are filled with fun language and math practice designed to engage students with their parents. Each pack includes everything families need to help students develop skills in phonological awareness, phonics, reading comprehension, number recognition, comparing numbers, counting, addition, and subtraction. Plus, each pack comes with a simple, step-by-step instruction card in English and Spanish…so busy families can jump right in!
Research shows that children are more likely to succeed academically and are less likely to engage in violent behavior if their families are involved in their education.
I wanted to create a project that would allow me to engage families in meaningful ways to actively support their children's learning and development. It is my hope that this process will help to build positive and goal-oriented relationships with my students and parents.
