In my classroom of 21 Kindergarten kids, there is a wide range of background and experiences.
Despite the economic, cultural, and educational background differences within our walls, these kids are excited to be in school and eager to learn. As it is with most 5 year old kids, they require movement and learning that will involve and engage them. As children emerge into readers it is important to provide tools that will allow them success and enjoyment in order to capture the love of reading that is waiting inside of each and every child.
My Project
I hope to help inspire students love of reading with the Tag School Reading System. The Tag School Reader is an easy-to-use handheld tool for kids to help them learn to read. Every time a child touches the Tag School reader to specially printed books and materials, they can hear stories and sentences read aloud, get on-demand pronunciation for individual words, listen to audio from characters and other story elements, and play fun activities that reinforce key skills such as comprehension and vocabulary development.
I would like to provide enough Tag Readers to enable small groups of students to work independently and be fully engaged in something exciting and educational during Daily Five and Center Reading times.

As the first step in a long educational career the Tag Reader is a magnificent tool to aid children in developing letter recognition, word building, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. These are important skills to aid in the reading process but the Tag Reader will help promote something far more telling of future reading success. It will ensure that the time spent with books is enjoyable for all levels of learners.
