Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at a low income charter school in California. Most of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and come from high poverty, non-English speaking families. I work very hard to make sure that they receive a quality education despite their economic status.
Many of my students are struggling readers. Some are just learning English and are still practicing learning their letters and sounds. Many of them do not have access to high level technology at home and some do not even have books at home. Therefore, the time we spend reading in class is incredibly important. I know that I can never have enough quality learning materials in my classroom.
Leapfrog Learning systems are wonderful educational tools. Unfortunately most of my students cannot afford them, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve them. I am asking for a set of four Tag Reading systems and six books. The Tag Reading system is a special pen that will help a child learn to read by reading the word aloud to the student when he or she places the pen on the word in the book. The pen will also sound out the word, and interact with the text. This eliminates the never ending "What's this word?" question that fills every classroom.
The Tag Reading system is a revolutionary teaching tool. With your donation I will be able to allow 4 struggling students a chance to practice reading independently. There is no possible way for me to read with all 20 students at the same time, but by using the Tag Reading system, I know that at least four students can be working on their reading skills independently. Moreover, I know that all my students will be extremely excited to open up the books and use the pens to practice reading! Please help my struggling students become excited about reading independently!
