This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students I teach attend a Project Based Learning school and come from diverse backgrounds. They are sixth graders who are inquisitive and posses an array of abilities. They are not always ready or prepared to embark on new learning experiences due to lack of resources at times. However, with a little improvising and encouragement they succeed in finishing what they start.
My students are visual, tactile learners who easily bore with lectures and reading text.
They are more enthusiastic about interactive lessons where their individuality is valued. They are a heterogeneous group of inquisitive, witty, intelligent, out-of-the-box thinkers, which makes them quite special individuals. I love how they ask questions, some of which cause my wheels to turn and wonder. They inspire me each day to incorporate activities where they can use inquiry skills and learn as they understand the how's and why's in science.
My Project
With these new composition notebooks, electric pencil sharpener, colored pencils, and copy paper my students will be able to individualize their work. They will use the composition notebooks as interactive science notebooks, taking ownership of their learning and build a portfolio they can reference for future assignments.
The interactive notebooks will be helpful for students to organize their work and synthesize their thoughts.
Students will be able to take notes and paste visuals of concepts like the water cycle, air masses and frontal boundaries, and create their own weather maps with the correct weather symbols, because they'll have all the necessary resources.
