Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our third grade team has 8 classrooms, with about 18-21 students in each class. Many of these students come from low socioeconomic households, with approximately 10% of which are our Families in Transition students (FIT). These students may live either in multi-family homes or hotels. Due to our school's Title I status, 100% of our students receive free breakfast as well as lunch at no cost. Anywhere from 10-15% of our classes comprise of English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students with approximately 1% of considered Non-English Speakers. A large number of our students also are in our MTSS program where we provide added assistance in academics as they have shown through testing that they have gaps in their learning.
Our students may have challenges to overcome, but they are nothing but extraordinary.
My Project
Technology is extremely motivating for children in today's society. With six Fire tablets, my students will be able to utilize technology during our small group reading and math times. Our school has engaging and beneficial programs such as Flocabulary, iReady, and AR that all of my students benefit from, but not on a regular basis. My ESL (non-English speaking) students would also greatly benefit from these Fire tablets because it would allow greater opportunities for them to use programs such as Footsteps to Brilliance and StarFall as they learn the English language.
New technology will provide my students with necessary skill sets for the 21st century!
