Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I started the school by wanting my students to be comfortable with technology and they have greatly exceeded my expectations! They have embraced technology, seek it out and are thirsty for more. My biggest challenge now is getting more technology in class and using it to deliver great content.
My students started off not having access to technology and not seeking it out at home for educational purposes.
They started off as timid creators and are now ready to take any challenge thrown at them. They are always ready for the next project and have grown greatly in the first half of the year. My school and district has continued to push for technology to be readily available to students, but also for teachers to integrate it in a way that impacts students immensely.
My Project
I am requesting 25 Fire Tablets. My students will use these tablets in many different ways. We have a 3D printer in our classroom and also multiple programmable robots. There are currently times where my students are waiting for an opportunity to use robots and are left out of the chance to learn programming. By having these tablets, students can have more hands-on time with programming but also have others ways of showing their understanding via animations, videos and many other options.
My students have already shown me that they are excited to learn but they are even more excited about learning with technology readily available.
The area we live in is one with high unemployment and with very little opportunities for them to seek out this type of technology. By having these tablets in my class, my students will have another opportunity to use technology as a learning tool and open their eyes to careers that they may not have thought were within their grasp.
