Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a low income neighborhood. All of my students are on the free food program. My students are interested in learning. They enjoy working together to solve problems. I see them talk through a problem and help each other to understand. My students prefer hands-on projects as their learning modality. They enjoy activities. I have to constantly challenge them to go beyond.
I have been excitedly accumulating kits for my students to use, but each runs on an app and now we need the equipment to run them.
Being able to use hands-on materials gives my students a way to learn beyond rote learning. They get excited when it's their turn. They will be extra well behaved knowing they could be next.
My Project
The tablets will help my students get started on making movies, playing music with a ring, or running and coding robots. I have most of the equipment, but now we need something to play them on. My classroom currently has one broken down iPad. The screen is discolored and the image is wavy. The kids can barely see what is happening on the screen. With two tablets I can have one student run a robot while a group of students can use stop motion to make a movie.
Having tablets in our classroom means I can download the apps we need, and my students can learn how to use the equipment the day it arrives in the classroom.
