Tablets to Progress our Learning

My Students

My students enjoy learning but learning does not come easy for them. I teach reading and math interventions for students who are struggling learners. Tablets would help them with their learning through educational apps and games. These students just want to succeed and I believe this is the way!

I teach at a title one school in the mid-Michigan area.

The majority of our school receives free breakfast and lunch as well as food to take home for dinner for the week. I work in a middle school environment and teach 5th and 6th graders. They are excellent kids, but they do not have the resources to succeed. Many of my students are on their own after school because their parents are working or their parents are not involved in their lives or care about education. It is so hard to see them struggling at school and to know that some of that has to do with their home environments. I want the best for my students and I want them to succeed. I teach at a school with a variety of ethnicities. Our school also has a lot of children who suffer from a learning disability.

My Project

I am requesting tablets and cases to protect the tablets for my students. I teach reading and math interventions to struggling students. A lot of what we do is on the computers, but our school does not have the computers or technology to allow my students to use them everyday as they are needed for them. My students use programs like MobyMax.com to help them with the core academic areas. We also work with STAR, AR and math games. This is a great way for my students to learn. It teaches them how to use technology, how to learn through a variety of resources, as well as how to make learning fun. My students will learn the concepts of math and reading that they are struggling with through these programs on the tablets that I am requesting. I teach small groups of no more than five students so each child would use their own tablet during their small group time. This would provide them with a sense of belonging and acceptance. I just want what is best for these students.

Donations to this project would mean the absolute world to my students and me.

The students would be able to work on academic areas that they are individually struggling with while using their tablets. It would change their lives as well as mine as their teacher. I want them to know that I care about their education and their success. I want what is best for them, and I believe that these tablets would change the way that they view learning and school.
