This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach an awesome group of Life Skills Support students. Our district is struggling financially. Your support will help my students get materials that will assist them in accessing technology.
Despite all odds, my students come to school every day ready, willing, and able to learn.
My belief is that all students are capable of learning when provided the opportunities needed to overcome their delays. I currently have 12 highly motivated, intellectually disabled, kindergarten to third grade students. My students enjoy learning new things and I would love to provide them that opportunity.
My Project
One of the greatest challenges I am facing is giving my students the ability to access technology independently. My students are not able to independently use the computer mouse in the classroom. This is causing them to miss out on some of the programs (Imagine Learning) that are available to special needs students in the school district. My students need to be able to access the hands on, visual exploration that the Kindle Fire Tablet offers.
If provided the Kindle Fire Tablet, my students will be able to finally access technology independently without having to worry about trying to manipulate the mouse.
They will be able to work on differentiated instruction, communication skills, social skills, and early literacy and math skills. My students will be able to use these Fire Tablets to enhance their learning, as well as, their self-esteem. It is my hope that these Tablets will help them to feel good and put ownership into their learning.
