I currently teach 5th grade. I feel very fortunate to have a classroom full of curious and inquisitive minds. My students' love for learning makes my job that much more rewarding. Despite the socioeconomic status of my students, I want them to know that they deserve the same opportunities and materials as any other student.
The school I teach in is identified as Title I.
This means the majority of our students live in extreme poverty. Almost all students receive free lunch. The student population is made primarily of African-American and Hispanic students.
I am currently requesting 6 Amazon Fire tablets to support online learning for my students. Roughly 5 1/2 weeks ago, like many school districts, mine was greatly impacted by COVID-19. Schools have been shutdown and we have shifted to online learning. Unfortunately many of my students do not have the adequate technology at home to support this format.
These tablets will ensure that my students have equal access to distance learning.
It will allow them to keep up with classroom assignments and help alleviate any learning gaps that may occur as a direct impact of the COVID-19 school shutdowns.
