Help me give my students 3 Amazon Fire tablets to create digital centers for our reading, writing and math centers.
I work in a Title I elementary school in a NYC borough. My kindergarten students are eager and ready to learn despite the hardships they face, such as learning disabilities, learning English as a second language, poverty, and coming from an immigrant population. They are full of questions and at times shy, but they love coming to school and learning something new everyday. Many of the parents have a limited education and are unable to provide academic support. That is why a positive and enriching school experience and the proper tools are so important. I want them to have the chances and opportunities that are not offered in many parts of the world, a chance to rise above their circumstances.
My students need all the hands-on experiences they can get. We want to incorporate digital centers for reading, writing and math. Using Amazon Fire tablets will give our students access to the curriculum by allowing them to use all their senses while learning all the basic skills they need to be succesful readers, writers and problem solvers.
Skills such as; letter name and sound knowledge, print concepts, name writing skills, letter and number writing skills and numeral knowledge.
Acquiring these skills can be challenging for our students as they are learning English and have special needs. The use of tablets will help them increase their independence, foster self confidence, help them self-assess and develop their collaboration skills when working with a peer.
The Amazon Fire tablets will make these digital centers a reality. Please help us get there.
