Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing young humans: resilient, funny, creative and resourceful. Many of them have not had a lot of formal art education in their lives but they are able to constantly rise to my expectations and surprise me with their creations and willingness to push themselves.
The neighborhood my students live in may not always be the easiest for students to navigate outside of their school but they still come to school ready to learn, grow, and take on new challenges.
My Project
Technology in the art room is not just a passing fad or optional in 2018 and beyond. Students need a wide variety of materials to create, reflect, and record their art works. With tablets my students can learn how to create video games by visual coding, make collages and digital artworks, upload their artworks to an online portfolio website, and get reference images for their creations.
My students would greatly appreciate the use of technology that is similar to the technology they already use and love.
Using tablets in the classroom would allow them to access prior knowledge while also showing them new ways to use a touch screen tool in and out of the classroom. Since many apps that are available on a table are also available on a phone, my students will learn how to adapt what they are learning in the classroom and take it home to continue their education there.
