Mrs. Armstrong from Detroit MI is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need extra tablets to allow them to strengthen their literacy and mathematical skills through technology.

"Reach for the moon, and you'll land among the stars" is one of many mottos in my classroom. I am a teacher to 20 motivated second graders who have dreams as big as their hearts and smiles. They love learning and many days they enter the room by sharing interesting information that they've learned.
My students are very bright and hardworking.
I teach in a predominately African-American school where 75% of our school culture qualifies for free or reduced priced lunch. Many of my students come from single parent homes while some of my students have both parents in the home. Some of my students are raised by their grandparents. Some of my students raise themselves. Even though their home lives are different their passion for college is the same. Every day I talk to my students about their future. Not just about their future in short term goals but long term. We discuss their ambitions and the importance of laying a foundation. I preach to them that practice makes perfect and to improve in school, we must practice perfectly. Currently, my school purchased a license to the web site Study Island. Study Island is a web based program that allows students to practice answering standardized test questions that will appear on tests such as the MAP and MEAP. It gives them a chance to practice.
Currently, in our classroom we have only 4 computers for 20 students to rotate. Some of my students have computers at home but no Internet access. Some of my students don't have computers at home. With the tablets that I requested, more students will be able to access the internet. Accessing the internet will allow my students to strengthen their literacy and mathematical skills through fun, educational games. In addition, my students love to read. With additional devices, students will be able to read books online and learn how to world uses technology to grow in knowledge. Building reading and computational fluency is one of our school improvement goals. Fastt math is another computerized program that my school purchased to help improve students ability to solve basic math facts. We have the materials but we're lacking in the necessary tools.
The donations of the tablets would be such a blessing.
I know how bright my students are and I need to help them show their brightness through their test scores. Three times a year our students are held accountable for the MAP test. The MAP test is a standardized adaptive test that students take on the computer. These tablets will allow my students more time to utilize the Internet to access Study Island. These tablets will give my students an opportunity to grow and build their skills.
