My students are amazing 7th graders in an urban community. The classes range from honors to co-taught. All of my students have an excitement for technology and incorporating technology to increase learning potentials. We have a large number of students who have learned English as their second language. Combine that with a large population of students who receive free/reduced lunch and low income housing. All of my students love the universal language of math. Resources are limited. A class set of tablets to allow the incorporation of technology in learning will help increase learning potential in an environment with limited resources.
The addition of technology, Kindle Fire Tablets, would give my students a much needed boost of practice in the areas of mathematics. Students who are confident in their mathematical reasoning abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education and success in their daily lives. Students are expected to master Pre-Algebra math skills when many of them go home to environments where homework and learning may not be a priority due to poverty and even language barriers. Exposing students who do not have access to technology at home to different learning resources will provide all learners in my class with a chance to grow and succeed.
The Kindle Fire Tablets will be used by students, for remediation purposes, so they can use sites such as IXL and Khan Academey, which will help them to retain and practice skills.
The tablets will also allow my students to explore math by participating and creating webquest. Another use for the tablets would be to engage my students in review material by using the tablets for Kahoots ,Quizizz, and Plickers. These are just a few examples for what these tablets can do for my class. The cases will be used to protect the tablets, since this is a class set and the charging station will be used to keep the tablets charged and ready to use.
