"We Can Do Hard Things" is our classroom motto. It hangs on the wall in our classroom and is an ever present reminder that even though the task at hand seems difficult, it is not impossible. On any given day this phrase can be heard in our classroom as an encouragement and reminder to believe.
My students are all from a small, rural area.
We are the only elementary in our district. It makes it hard to stay on the trend of technology and curriculum. My students come from a variety of backgrounds: foster care, single-parent homes, grandparents as guardians. Students in this area don't get the same experiences as other students in our state. Our school has a wide range of economic and academic needs. Even though the students in our area don't have similar opportunities as others, they have the same eagerness to learn and the fire for knowledge. It is my job, and I say that with the most pride, to fill the gap and lead them to new and exciting discoveries helping each of them reach their fullest potential.
My Project
I would like my students to each have a tablet to use. Each student would have apps for intervention that would be custom to their needs. I would also love to go on virtual field trips together. With the ever decreasing budget, virtual field trips are the future allowing students to experience places and things they otherwise would never get a chance to see. I would also like to use Skype as a feature on the tablets. In our class we do novel studies, and many of the authors we read do Skype interviews. How fun would that be?
The use of tablets in my classroom will encourage learning in a fun and unconventional way.
Each student will have more time throughout the day to focus on their personal needs by using the custom intervention apps. The use of tablets in my classroom will open up the doors of the world as we explore new places via virtual field trips.
