This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I School in Prince George's County, MD. Our Kindergarten class is a mix of 5 and 6-year-old kids who have been in school before and some first-time students who are learning how to maneuver their way through the school day. Students enter the year with a large range of skills. Kindergarten is a rewarding age to teach because there is such a great amount of growth from the beginning of the year to the end.
My Project
I have some students still working on number and letter recognition who would benefit greatly from being able to work on a tablet that says the letter names and number names out loud for them. Since I cannot work with every student one-on-one at all times, these tablets will help with some of my lower students who need the verbal reinforcement to help them recall the names of letters and numbers. The interactive nature of the tablets will also help keep them engaged even though these skills are something they struggle with. I'm hoping that working on tablets will make skills that currently feel out-of-reach for them feel more like fun.
