Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are from low-income homes. We are a 100% free lunch school. During this pandemic, my students are learning from worksheet packets every 2-3 weeks. Most of my children have no device to go online with. They can use their parent's phones for a limited time when a parent comes home from work. Most have been laid off or are still working as essential workers in supermarkets and nursing homes. We have given a few devices but most can't go online without any device to do remote learning.

My Project

When our school closed on that Friday in March I never knew that this pandemic would cause such hardship for my students. These tablets will help my students to work remotely on learning programs. We send out learning packets but I would like my students to be able to zoom with me online, read books, and work math and reading programs on a tablet. It would be wonderful to connect with my students by having them read to me online. This pandemic has really shown the economic disparity in our community.
