This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My young students come to school excited about learning every day! However, my students are a little different from the typical class.

I teach a Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (or PPCD).

These students are ages 3-5 who have an assortment of learning differences: Down's syndrome, Autism spectrum disorders, visual/auditory difficulties, speech impediments, etc. Due to these differences in learning, these students start at age three to help them be better prepared for entering the kindergarten classroom. The goal of PPCD is to transition students into the regular classroom as much as possible.

My Project

Our class is asking for 13 Android tablets to help our students improve their numeracy and literacy skills. The Android tablets offer the opportunity for students to learn and practice skills such as identifying letters, sounds, numbers, and identifying common items in our world. My students are sometimes non-verbal, and having access to these would also allow us to help students learn to communicate by using apps that would allow them to show us what they need, when they can not verbalize it.

These Android tablets will allow my students to more easily transition into the regular classroom.

As my students reach kindergarten or first grade, they often transition into a regular classroom, and have to be able to have the same skills that the students in those classes have. The numeracy and literacy skills learned on the tablets will make this transition easier. Thank you for considering our project.
