Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are in a high immigrant area in Hialeah and a large percentage of our students are from Hispanic backgrounds. Many of my students are ELL students that are still learning English. I strive to maximize each opportunity they have.
My students are kind, caring, helpful, and always eager to learn.
When my students are engaged with reading and writing they produce their best work. I want to be able to give my students the materials that they deserve and that they need to be successful.
My Project
My students need tablets, and protective cases, in order to access online learning programs and apps. Each day in my class, we have reading rotations where the students practice and improve their language arts and reading skills. The rotations include Writing/Phonics, Task Cards, Computers, and a Teacher Led Center. MY challenge has been to find apps and programs that students find interesting as there are not enough computers for each student and they are used primarily for our reading program I-Ready.
Tablets give students the chance to engage in learning in a new and exciting way!
Having the tablets would help my students to access different learning websites and apps that they find interesting and that can show them such as Raz Kids: Students can read books on their interest level and reading level. Teachers can customize lessons for their students and track student progress. Spelling City: Spelling city is an app that allows students to practice their spelling words by playing interactive games and taking practice quizzes. You would be giving my students an experience that they would otherwise not be able to have!
