Help me give my students technology in the classroom with tablets and headphones.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My kindergarten students come from a high poverty community! We are located in the inner city of Baltimore City and have 500 students in our school. Students in PreK are at a disadvantage with the amount of math and language arts materials.
Kindergarten is the time for students to become engaged in learning and learn how to be creators, explorers, artists, dreamers, scholars, heroes and world changers.
My students are actively engaged every day in purposeful play and enriched curriculum to learn about the world around them and how to change it!
With the evolution of technology, young learners need daily access to the different technologies to become proficient. In my kindergarten students' generation, by the time they are in college, they will have to know and understand how to use tablets and computers for everything in education from writing/typing to searching the web for information.
Technology can become the "wings" that will allow the educational world to fly father and faster than ever before-If we allow it.
With the use of the tablets, my students will become more engaged and want to learn more about mathematics and language.
Using different features for the tablet and not just app/games, I can help a wide range of learners. Using the touchscreen capability, students who lack motor skills can actually watch their finger move and write directly on the screen, which greatly improves their fine motor skills. The tablets will allow me to easily and creatively tailor lesson plans for each student based on what that student needs.
Of course, with tablets, I need to have individual headphones for my students to use with their tablets. Some of the apps like Reading Kids, students would need to listen to the book before trying to decode the book on their own.
My students come from a high poverty community and do not have daily access to technology. With the help of these tablets, I can help my students become dreamers, artists, explorers, scholars, and engineers.
