My students need three Fire 7 Tablets for my students to do research for projects, take Accelerated Reader tests. They will also use the tablets to take online assessments.
My students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them do not have access to technology at home to complete research and research-based projects. Having technology available to them at school will give these students the same advantage as students with technology at home.
Sixty-nine percent of our students participate in the National School Lunch Program.
To qualify for free lunch, children's family income must be under $15,171. 59.9% of students receive free lunch. To qualify for reduced lunch, children's family income must be below $21,590 annual income. 8.9% of students at our school receive reduced lunch.
My Project
The Fire tablets that I am requesting for my students will have a huge impact on my students' education. We do not have any technology that we have in our classroom on a daily basis. We currently share technology with another grade level. The students must wait every other day to use the technology.
We will use the tablets to help students conduct research for projects.
We will research projects that the students will use to give presentations on various topics, such as animals and their homes. We will also use the tablets to take state assessments to monitor students' learning and growth.
We use technology to participate in the Accelerated Reader program. My students read books daily on their level. After completing the books, the students take Accelerated Reader tests. If the students meet their individualized goals set, they are allowed to participate in AR parties and other fun activities. With using shared technology, my students do not have the same opportunities as other students to meet their goals, because they have to wait every other day to take tests. By this time, some of the students have forgotten what they have read and do not do well on the tests.
