My students need 3 Nook tablets to help them become part of the digital era in which they live in. These tablets would create endless opportunities for my students.
I teach a brilliant group of 5th graders. As a Language Arts teacher, I love exploring literature and informational texts with my students. From the avid reader to the struggling reader, I strive to find the book that they will fall in love with, the book they can't put down and never forget.
Our school is a neighborhood school, built over 50 years ago.
A great deal of my 5th graders have been attending our school since they were in Kindergarten. Our school has a strong community of families that are dedicated to our students' futures, despite the various socioeconomic diversity within our school. My class of 5th graders surprise me and humble me daily with their questions, desire to learn, their relentless pursuit to work hard and their ability to make me laugh.
My Project
The use of these tablets would provide endless opportunities for my students. The titles of books available to my students would be endless. Beyond the ability to create an e-book library for our class, my students would be able to access our district's online e-book forum, MyOn. My students beg to be able to independently read at every opportunity. I can't even imagine what they would do with the ability to endless titles of literature at their fingertips.
The use of these tablets would bring Internet access to my students anywhere in the classroom. The tablets would allow students to engage in class online discussions through our class webpage. They would be able to pose questions, ideas and thoughts in a forum designed just for them.
The access to the internet would allow students to be able to research and have access to endless information that would aide them in our subjects as well.
To be able to provide my students with this kind of technology will change their education and it will change them. The idea once seemed unfathomable, but it has become a real possibility and the opportunities are limitless.
