Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Unity is strength...when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” This statement, made by Mattie Stepanek, highlights the importance of working together towards common education goals. Students need a place where they can discuss and experiment creatively to solve problems. My students will utilize various collaborative techniques to innovate, communicate, and reflect to achieve great things.
My students are freshmen in an inner-city high school.
The school is located in the inner-city. The majority of students are at or below the poverty level. Most students receive free lunch. The students are of many different ethnicities. For most of the students, English is their second language. Some of the students are reluctant readers. Despite any disadvantages that they may face, my students aspire to attend and graduate college. The furniture requested will provide a place for students to actively listen, build relationships, improve their communication skills and develop solutions for workplace challenges.
My Project
By funding this project, donors will enable freshmen high school students in career exploration classes the opportunity to communicate, build team relationships and solve workplace problems together.
My freshmen high school students will have meeting places within the classroom to discuss and work together on projects related to career planning, digital citizenship, diversity, interview techniques, workplace etiquette, etc.
At present, students only have a small individual work area. The fulfillment of this project will provide work stations for classroom teams. Having the work stations will encourage the students to use interpersonal skills and create a classroom community as they complete assigned projects.
