My students need me to have a tablet for classroom use. The school has a supply of tablets for student use, but they need me to have one for the Smartboard and more.
Despite being a top-rated district in our county, we are sorely behind in technology. We are slowly catching up, but even city schools are ahead of us. I'd like this tablet so that we can fully utilize some of the technology that is coming our way.
My third grade students are a wonderfully sweet group of kids who are growing up surrounded and inundated in technology.
They are eager and hungry for implementing technology into the lessons. They respond to technology use in the classroom more so than anything else. Although we are in a top-rated district, we are sorely behind in technology - and the budget cuts have hit us as much as anyone. I have volunteered for every technology pilot program that has come our way, but I still need a tablet so that I can fully implement our Bring Your Own Device program, and incorporate it with our new Interactive White Boards.
My Project
There are a number of apps that I am excited to try when I get this tablet. First, I will be able to hook the tablet into my Interactive White Board so that I do not need to stand in front of the board all the time. This will allow me to get around to all my students and help them throughout the room. Next, I am very excited about a website called Classdojo, which has an app, that is a behavior management software. This allows parents to connect to the website and keep track of their child's behavior. What I LOVE about this site is that it accounts for POSITIVE behaviors as well. However, this will be hard to do with a laptop. A tablet would make this more doable. My students will be focused on earning POSITIVE behavior points, which will lead to greater attention to attaining learning goals. Finally, I will have a device to use with our Bring Your Own Device Program.
This project is so important because it will allow my students to become more engaged in their learning process, which will lead to greater levels of success.
My students are very excited about all the possibilities that technology brings.
