This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are young, bright, individuals with a positive outlook on life. They believe that succeeding in education will give them an opportunity to excel in the future. My students discuss their dreams of going to college, learning to read, and of course making money. They deserve a chance at making their dreams a reality, but unfortunately, this is not always true.
My students are underprivileged living in a community surrounded by poverty and violence, however, they are filled with hope and optimism.
They have experiences that the average adult could not imagine. Statistics show that they are not on track academically with their peers in more affluent cities. Yet every day they come to school ready to learn.
They raise their hands, work hard, and participate. They constantly push themselves to be the best students that they can be. My students should be provided with all of the resources necessary to have an adequate education but unfortunately, we don’t have basic supplies or tools during the school year. The quality of my students’ education should not be determined by their zip code, but unfortunately, when they are not given the proper resources they are not given a fair chance.
My Project
For my project I am requesting five tablets, headphones for the tablets, and a storage center for the tablets for use in our early learning classroom. The tablets would be a tremendous enhancement for our classroom learning environment. Students would be able to use the tablets to practice their reading during small group time. There are many different apps available to early learners that allow them to practice their letter identification, sight word recognition, and/or reading fluency.
During small group time these young learners could work independently to develop these skills.
Our classroom also has a 30% ESOL population and these tablets will work great to help increase their understanding and bridge the gap for any language barriers. Please consider donating to our classroom to increase our use of technology. Students will be engaged in a manner that is different from traditional instruction. A tablet may be the perfect tool for a struggling learner who has differentiated needs.
