This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative and try their best every day. They love hands-on, active, and engaging projects, and even with intellectual disabilities love to be challenged. They often excitedly ask me when we are going to do more difficult assignments. They come to school each day excited and ready to learn new things.
One of the most satisfying things a teacher can hear their students say is, "I am getting smarter." I hope to have my new students utter as well as feel the same way this upcoming school year.
My Project
Technology is used daily in my classroom for centers and whole group instruction. Technology makes content more comprehensive and engaging. The Amazon Fire tablets would be used daily for math and reading centers, and would make subject material more readily accessible for all of my students. The tablets may, depending on the task, be used in groups during whole group instruction.
My students have intellectual disabilities, and this oftentimes includes physical and visual impairments.
These eight inch tablets are large, easier to maneuver, and can be configured/setting changed to aid students with visual impairments. My students try to complete their work to the best of their ability daily, and the addition of technology in our classroom would truly make a difference in our classroom.
