This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world!” – Nelson Mandela
My 1st grade ICT classroom consists of 28 boys and girls with 28 different learning, emotional, behavior disabilities as well as a handful of gifted students all crammed into a small classroom.
Getting together to conference, or even work in small groups is virtually impossible. We meet on the carpet or in the “library” area but there is always something to distract them, and some of my students cannot sit on the floor due to disabilities.
My Project
Now that the year is coming to an end, I made a promise to myself that next year I will have a table where my students and I can come together, in small groups, the ones with disabilities have a place to go other than the floor and overall my next 28-30 students will have a better learning environment.
Tables are often thought of as "just part of the classroom," but you may be surprised at how table styles can impact children's learning and the overall learning environment.
This half moon table will do just that. Giving us a place to come together, to meet, conference and discuss. It's this simple strategy that will help my students learn, grow and retain information taught to them.
