Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is often children’s first experience with school and sets the tone for the rest of their educational journey. My students come to me ready and willing to learn all they can about the world. My class consists of children with various abilities. We embrace these abilities and their natural curiosity. Every day is a joy as they learn to read and write and explore. We spark the joy of learning that lasts a lifetime. Often our classroom is also an escape from the harsh realities of poverty and violence outside the school’s walls. We are the student’s second home and do all we can to create a loving nurturing environment.
My Project
My students are using old worn out tables right now. Some are half tables so they split apart as students are working at them. We have also had a few mishaps with legs falling off and tables being very wobbly. Since they are just learning to write, wobbly tables make the process even more difficult. My students need new tables to be able to do their best work safely. Our school budget for the last two years has not allowed for the purchase of these tables. The students need to be able to sit at a table to complete a project and not worry that a leg is going to fall off.
