Tables for Teamwork!

Help me give my students new tables to create a comfortable space for them to work independently in centers as well as with classroom volunteers!

My Project

I am a first year first grade teacher at a Title 1 school. My group of students are a unique set of learners and are so eager to explore. As a first year teacher, I could not be more grateful to be part of their learning!

I want to give my students meaningful opportunities and areas in our classroom for educational growth that make them think, communicate, problem-solve, invent, and cooperate!

My class is fortunate enough to work with volunteers. Our volunteers come in at different times of the day to work with students. Our current table in our classroom is small, wobbly, and too short for my growing first graders. The legs on the table are coming apart. This makes it uncomfortable for older volunteers who are working with the students. During small group centers, children are often crowded at the table that we have because it is so small! This makes it difficult for my students to work cooperatively. Having new, larger tables will create a more comfortable space for my students to work. When students are in an inviting and safe environment, they tend to learn better and are more likely to participate in the learning.

The best conversations happen around the table! I would love to give my students new tables where they can safely work cooperatively with their classmates and classroom volunteers. These new tables will be a welcoming sight for my students. They will provide us with more space to sit comfortably while learning and to safely collaborate with others.

I strongly believe that the classroom environment plays a huge role in student motivation. It also plays a large role in how students learn. Please help give our class new and safe tables that would allow for collaboration and increased student engagement!
