This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the privilege of being a third grade teacher! I have a room full of seventeen, bright students who want to learn. Our school is Title I, has high poverty and trauma and is an inner-city school where a majority of my students receive reduced price or free lunch. Everyday my students bring more than just a backpack to school, including personal struggles along with their academic strengths and weaknesses.
Our classroom is a collaborative and inclusive environment with over half of our students receiving Special Education services from the Exceptional Education teacher whom I co-teach with.
I believe that with the right environment, materials and opportunities all of my students can learn and feel successful in my classroom.
My Project
Our classroom is in need of tables to provide ways for students to effectively collaborate. Currently we use desks and the students are not fans. The desks are older and mismatched heights making it hard to form groups. Students are constantly asking to sit at my table or the computer table instead of their own seats.
I want to provide students with different seating options in our room.
These tables will help with that! The tables will be a fun space for students to work together instead of sitting in individual desks. I want our classroom to be an inviting environment and these tables will help with that. Tables allow students to feel part of a group and learn how to work with others by sharing space and supplies. I believe these tables will help create a more family atmosphere and promote teamwork in the classroom.
