This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are excited, energetic, and eager-to-learn young adults. I serve many students from different backgrounds, that have so much going on at home on a personal level. About three-quarters of my students receive free or reduced lunch.
An emphasis in my classroom will be about collaboration.
I will utilize these tables to better serve my students, and be able to work on their level, while planning lessons that allow them to collaborate and grow as citizens of the 21st century.
My Project
My school follows a learning-focused lesson plan approach where students are expected to work in collaborative pairs often. These tables will allow my students to already be in pairs without having to move around in their old desks. These tables also allows my students to spread out a little more rather than being confined to a small area. These desks will allow me to work in these groups one on one, as they are assessable on both sides.
Tables would allow for differentiated learning and grouping, as well as make my classroom more accessible for all students, regardless of ability.
The students old desks are tilted at an angle and are hard to arrange perfectly. Most of our current tables are broken, or outdated/uncomfortable, and do not provide for opportunities of engagement or collaboration. New tables will provide students with an updated learning environment. They will also be safer than the updated desks.
