My typical classroom is unlike most others. In my room, students are actively learning concepts everyday through doing - we play English Handbells for a performing arts credit at our high school. Students join my class with little musical knowledge and leave with much more - some stay 4 years!
Students in my class come from a wide variety of backgrounds.
They are in grades 9 - 12. For some, this class is the main motivation for coming to school on a daily basis - their is a connection for them in making music. There are players from football, basketball, wrestlers, baseball, track, volleyball - almost every sport is represented in this class. Some students come to learn about music and leave with a better sense of well - being. Our group is a source of pride for the school district. We are a city school district where there are approximately 700 students at the high school. The class has grown from originally 10 students in a general music class in middle school to now 50 students enrolled at the high school level.
My Project
The students will use these tables to replace the tables that we currently have. We utilize 5 octaves of handbells and 5 octaves of chimes daily for three periods and need stable tables that do not collapse. The students use these tables to practice and perform on throughout the school year. We put these tables up for three periods and take them down when we are finished as we use the choir room for our practice area - our classroom. We perform for our community and throughout the local area many times during the year. We even perform the National Anthem at basketball games.
Your donations will help provide more stable playing surfaces for the students to practice appropriate bell technique on during class without the worry of a table collapsing and causing unnecessary damage to our equipment.
