Tables for Community and Comfort

My Students

The students I'm serving today are the future. As the school counselor it is my hope to empower my students to be their healthiest and happiest selves. I believe they are capable of anything if they are given the tools to understand their emotions, thoughts and behaviors. I believe they are resilient; they have the ability to overcome life's trials and traumas.

My Project

I teach whole group guidance and conduct small group and individual counseling. Through these activities students learn how to understand themselves, manage their emotions, interact with others in meaningful and positive ways, cultivate a growth mindset, expand their ability to focus and control their attention, problem solve and make appropriate choices.

A calm and comforting environment is paramount to creating a space where children can feel comfortable exploring their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Part of creating that environment is having comfortable and non-distracting furniture. I have chosen round tables to provide this for my kindergarten through fifth grade students.

Round tables a great for creating a sense of community. Each student has a place of importance at the table and is empowered to contribute to conversations, idea sharing and conflict resolution.

The tables I currently use in the space the right size and shape but they are old, wobbly and creaky, making them distracting and uncomfortable.
