My students need interactive tables to keep them engaged with their peers! Our main goal is to provide them with positive social experiences and supports while learning. The tables make group work and communication more accessible!
More than just a label! Our diverse, creative, and unique students are integrated into a second grade ASD Nest classroom in the heart of multicultural Brooklyn. Our students with Autism are placed in this setting so that we can support their social emotional needs by providing specific supports that help them function and thrive in all areas of the academic and social general education curriculum. ASD Nest teachers are trained in these supports through NYU and Hunter College and continue their practices each year to better assist their students and keep them engaged in learning.
My Project
Our classroom is focused on positive behavior supports that help students achieve their goals both in a “team” and independently. Within the ASD Nest program, we focus on making group work and social emotional communication more accessible. For some students with Autism it is our goal for them to learn the importance of being part of a group and the role they play in their group succeeding. We provide many visual, auditory and sensory supports for our students to be able to successfully participate in group activities. Using these tables, our students can better communicate with their peers in small groups of four. Communication is critical to support meaningful conversations, projects/activities and peer feedback. Help them, help themselves and their team!
