Our school is in a low economic district. My students don't have many experiences outside of our small town. My students love to learn and look forward to coming to school everyday. I want to have the best classroom for my students. For the past couple years I have been using flexible seating in my classroom. I have found that while students love the different seats they still enjoy a table to work at while using those seats. I think that my students will truly learn best by doing this. My students are so eager to learn new things, make new friends and help teach each other. I will have 18 first graders this year. We are super excited to get started.
My Project
I have been doing flexible seating in my classroom over the last 3 years. I have learned that while my students love the freedom of flexible seating, they still need a table to do their work on. They love the movement of the seats and the choices but they don't like clipboards or writing on the floor. In first grade writing is still a new concept and they like to have a table to work at. They often bring their flexible seats to the teacher table to work. This year I have decided, I would like to get some small tables to place around my room for my students to do their work at. They will still use the flexible seats just at tables. This will allow us to create table teams and emphasize teamwork and cooperation. This will be such an amazing gift to not only me but to my students. I want my classroom to be an amazing place to learn and grow. These tables will make such a difference in our everyday environment. Thank you for considering.
