Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in an urban school where 80% of the students enrolled are on free/reduced-price lunch program. They are highly active and very inquisitive. Unfortunately, our current budget prevents us from spending money on additional furniture. As teachers, we are constantly spending our own money to meet the needs of our students.
My students enjoy working and collaborating on group projects and with their book clubs.
Adding additional tables to my classroom will help add more opportunities for students to collaborate. The tables will also allow more flexibility in seating during direct and indirect instruction. Students will have a choice of sitting at a desk or a table. Research has shown the flexibility in seating arrangement will enhance student learning.
My Project
Where do you like to sit and focus? Where do you learn best? Some days you want to sit in a group, and other days you want to be by yourself. That's how my students feel. Student focus and engagement can be affected by emotions as well as environment.
These requested activity tables will play an important role in classroom dynamics and help enhance the students' learning.
The tables will give them opportunities to discuss the latest chapters and plot developments with their book club. Students can help edit each other's writing and collaborate on science observations and projects.
Students benefit from flexible seating choices. Having a choice in seating empowers them to play an important roll in the classroom environment. With your support, we can have a more collaborative and flexible classroom.
